Sprachbausteine: the grammar that decides your score
Konnektoren, Kasus after prepositions, Konjunktiv II — the recurring cloze patterns, with examples.
Sprachbausteine is the cheapest part of telc B2 to improve. It's two short cloze tasks, but the gaps test the same handful of structures over and over. Learn the patterns and you bank points that take minutes, not hours, to earn.
The recurring patterns
- Konnektoren — the connectors that change word order: deshalb, trotzdem, je … desto, sodass. The gap usually tests whether you know what the verb does next. Es regnete, deshalb blieben wir zu Hause.
- Kasus after prepositions — fixed governance you simply have to know: mit takes dative, für takes accusative, wegen takes genitive. Two-way prepositions (in, auf, an) switch on motion versus position.
- Konjunktiv II — polite and hypothetical forms: Könnten Sie …, Ich würde vorschlagen, dass …. Recognising the trigger is half the answer.
- Verb–preposition collocations — sich freuen auf, warten auf, bestehen aus. These are vocabulary, not logic; collect them in your word list.
How to train it
Don't read explanations — do gaps. Work a set, then for every miss write down why the right answer is right (which rule, which trigger). The mistakes cluster fast, and a corrected log of your own errors is worth more than any grammar chapter. That's the loop a daily ritual is built to run.
